Common Ways to Prevent Morning Sickness
- Stick to bland foods, nothing to sweet, sour, or spicy (I know... boring!)
- Eat foods high in carbohydrates, low in fat (breads, rice, pasta, cereal, crackers)
- Eat foods high in protein (meats, eggs, beans)
- Keep some saltines or dry cereal near your bed and eat a couple before you get up
- Avoid greasy or fried food
- Drink lots of water (clear sodas and diluted fruit juice can be used too)
- Sip your water all day long (have a few Popsicles to help with this)
- Drink your liquids in between meals, but not with them
- Eat at least a small snack every 2 - 3 hours even when you don't feel hungry
- Take Vitamin B6
- Avoid strong smells
- Get plenty of rest and exercise
Common Ways to Treat Morning Sickness When You're Feeling Bad
- Drink ginger ale or ginger tea
- Chew peppermint gum
- Cool off
- Eat salty potato chips (some people swear by this)
Many women suffer from nausea in early pregnancy. A sick stomach is in fact often one of the very early pregnancy signs. And of all the early signs you are pregnant, nausea is probably the most unpleasant for many women. Morning sickness, as it is known, can strike at any time of day and feel severe. Fortunately this early sign that you are pregnant is most often alleviated by a few simple preventative measures and home treatments.
Upset stomach and/or vomiting often occur early in pregnancy. Although it does often happen in the morning (maybe because your stomach is empty) morning sickness can get you any time of day. It's usually over by the end of the first 3 months (first trimester) of pregnancy, but it can make your life miserable until then. It's important to keep well hydrated and continue to eat even though you may not feel like it. That said, it's best not to worry too much. Unless you are experience severe vomiting to the point where you can't keep any food down, you will be fine. A lot of women even lose weight during the first trimester because they no longer enjoy eating foods they used to or they simply can't.
Although we don't know why pregnant women have nausea and vomiting (or why some women suffer worse than others), but it probably has to do with changes in hormone and blood sugar levels. Stress can morning sickness worse, so there's another reason to remain calm throughout your pregnancy. (Good luck with that!)

diphenhydramine (benedryl) and doxylamine (unisom)work, too, and are safe for the fetus. the down side is drowsiness. your ginger and B6 suggestions are probably safe and don't have this side effect. my pregnant friend swears by chicken noodle soup. thanks for the practical tips and conversation starter.
Hi. Every day I feel nauseous but this morning is the worse I've had. I almost threw up. So I ate quicker. And I still feel very sick. I might be pregnant though cause when I took my test it came out weird. So I really don't know.
Nice tips,I'll practice this to my wife. thanks
